OVERVIEW

How criminal justice organizations respond to crime through programming and policy is greatly influenced by their views of criminal behavior. These views are embedded in theories of criminology. Empirical research findings that challenge existing criminological theories or propose new criminological theories have the ability to shift how an organization defines criminal behavior, what is needed to prevent it, and what is needed to address it. When a shift occurs, criminal justice practitioners will need to analyze their programs and policies to determine if changes should be made or if they should be removed altogether.INSTRUCTIONSFor this assignment, you will assume the role of a criminal justice practitioner in either a law enforcement organization, community corrections or institutional corrections organization, or judicial organization. After reading peer-reviewed research on restorative justice theory you have developed a new, restorative lens for which you view crime and responses to crime.
